- Losing all your innocence by opening the door for your girl – BMW Z1
A roadster that on paper would sell itself as an average American sports car. Polyester hoods, a partially tubular frame and a fat engine in the -long attached- nose. The difference? This German does take corners with razor-sharp precision. Sideways, that is.
The Z1 was already shown to the public in 1987, the first one was born in Munich in 1989. Totally innovative. Doors that did not open but disappeared, such that many a man deliberately picked up that lady with the skirt in the Z1. Panels that were assembled in such a way that BMW itself screwed off the side screen in front of the press. BMW CEO Ulrich Bez (now at Aston Martin Lagonda) jumped on it, after which it sprang back into its original form. Ein Meisterwerk der Technik!
And on to the technique; The well-known Sechserreihe, 170 pedaling horses with the Münster snarl -and plop-, topless. As red as a Ferrari, but without the instant midlife label. Short wheelbase, 1250 pounds, low center of gravity and rear-wheel drive. She cost 80,000 D-Mark new, a total of 8,000 were born, and she went in 8 seconds to the -Iwanttohavehim- !
Ours is fully documented, in new condition. Will we see you soon?
