The Mercedes 190 SL is a perfect example of listening to feedback. After the 300 SL was introduced, an American Mercedes importer noticed that while many people were interested, the 300 SL was still too expensive for what most wanted to spend on a weekend car. After a call to Germany, everything accelerated; later that year the 190 SL (based on the Ponton) was on display at the New York show. A year later the production version was ready in Geneva. Remarkably; not as a sports car, but as a comfortable two-seater. This became a great success, from 1955 to 1963 more than 25,000 190 SLs rolled off the assembly line in Germany.
Our 190 SL is from 1962 and was originally delivered to France. There the car remained in the family until 2000, when the last Dutch owner bought her. There the Mercedes got what she deserved; a complete restoration and overhaul, which by the way is fully documented and photographed. After the restoration was completed in 2002, the car was used as a vacation car. You can't start your vacation much better than that, remove the hood and with the big white steering wheel and the wind in your hair you're driving along the coast! The red leather interior is still original and has something special; a third seat! Behind the front seats there is a third 'slanted' seat, where you can enjoy your surroundings even more!
The 190 SL is in good driving condition, however it is not a concour car. The technique has been completely overhauled during the restoration, so he is ready for many more life enjoyment miles! If you want to drive without guilt towards the Stelvio Pass, this is the car for you!
