The story behind this collectible...
The Best or Nothing. - The Mercedes 560SEL
A Mercedes for bank directors, highly qualified civil servants and country leaders with often a -somewhat- dubious past. Fortunately Nelson made up for everything, he too was transported in the extended Sonderklasse of the W126 generation! In 1979 the first one was presented to the public at the IAA in Frankfurt. A time when the Germans really had no sense of humor and sold the cars with parts without a second business plan. Designed by Peter Pfeiffer. What? We don't understand, was so lustig ist ja?!?
In the end, 818 thousand W126s were born, of which about 28 thousand are still driving around in Europe. The rest, next to the Landcruisers and the Defs, have started a second life after EU retirement. So it can gradually be added to the list of endangered species. The 560 was built for the American, Australian and Japanese markets, because they found the 500 SEL too tame. So they extended the stroke of the 5 liter, mounted slightly higher heads and increased the power from 240 to 272 pushing Germans. And those, they are so powerful that the neighbor with his 325i becomes very insecure when merging onto the A1!
Ours? As you are probably used to. Completely original and unrestored. Dark blue on dark blue, sliding roof and no options. 96 thousand kilometers and fully dealer maintained. The previous collector, we think, finished her off completely. The original rims are made by hand in three parts and her chassis is equipped with air bellows. Fully independently controllable and adjustable. Had over 4000 watts of audio installed and everything 'hidden' in the spirit of the times. End result? The only W126 with humor. See you soon?
