The story behind this collectible...
- Maserati; the absolute opposite of ordinary -
Sometimes we get an ultimate Cool Classic in which even we are quiet for a moment. This is one of them! The Maserati 3500 GT Superleggera Coupé. The first production car from Maserati that was produced in a somewhat larger number. Maserati breathes passion, at the sound of the mighty 6-in-line your heart will beat faster and when you drive it, goose bumps guaranteed!
Besides the beautifully designed body, Maserati was also revolutionary under the skin. With the independent suspension system on the front axle, the tube-frame chassis and the engine from the racing world (Maserati 350S), it was a great success. The most sought-after model came with a triple Weber (42DCOE) carburetor setup. You guessed it, we got it!
Our 3500 GT started life in America, after which he crossed the ocean to the Netherlands in 2005. There he was completely restored and overhauled, which took a total of 8 years. The engine and gearbox were completely overhauled by Lapré Engineering (the Maserati specialist in the Netherlands) (including new pistons, valves and entire block again) and the body-off restored. During the gearbox overhaul we opted for the ZF 5 setup instead of the original ZF 4 setup. Best of both worlds; an early edition with the carburettors, but the better (and slightly later) gearbox.
In rebuilding the body, the 3500 GT was returned to its original gray color (Grigio Topo Chiaro) as it left the factory at the time. The entire interior has been reupholstered and has beautifully stitched window details. To finish it all off, is Maserati the equipped with the original Borrani rims.
