A Cool Classic of Cool Classics: the Jaguar E-type Series 1 3.8 OTS. Our OTS was restored a long time ago and was originally delivered in the Netherlands. We found her at the second owner, who has owned her since 1987 (!). In those 34 years she has done what she is good at; driving, surprising and giving smiles.
The long nose, the thick hips and sensual lines come into their own with Gunmetal Grey and a red leather interior. A neat lady, but secretly looking for eye contact with lace at the Christmas table, while you are having serious conversations with your father-in-law. Neat, but on the edge.
The E-type Series I was introduced in Europe on 15 March 1961 at the Geneva Motor Show and in the United States in April of the same year at the New York Motor Show. When the car was first shown, Enzo Ferrari called it ‘The most beautiful car ever made’. He is right to this day!
The Series 1 got a 3.8-litre straight-six engine under the bonnet, taken from the XK150S, a renowned and proven unit. All E-types got independent suspension and servo-assisted disc brakes on all four wheels, two unusual features at the time. The 3.8-litre versions had leather-trimmed bucket seats and a brushed aluminium central instrument panel. Sit in the red leather cockpit, gaze out over the bullet-shaped bonnet and grab the sporty gearstick and you'll understand why we also have this one on our personal favourites list. See you soon?
