The story behind this collectible...
The 280SE, the absolute pinnacle of Mercedes from the '60s. In '69, Mercedes wanted to implement a facelift. At the end of a series, Mercedes often starts experimenting with things that are introduced a series later. For example, the last 280SEs featured the legendary M116 engine, which was then used until 1979. So 60s looks with modern technology that gave the car 200 HP.
Shifting gears with a 3.5 V8 is not that much fun with an old automatic transmission. But many came with a shifter on the steering wheel, but this one has the sought after 'floor shift'. Driving through the German countryside you want to enjoy the smell of heather flowers, so it's nice that the first German owner opted for a sunroof. Only a few examples were delivered with this combination of options.
Ours was delivered in the Heimat, and the 'Opera Coupé' drove around in the German class until twenty years ago. In Holland the car has had two owners and has always been perfectly maintained, the owners both being collectors. Now ready for a new happy owner.
