The E55 AMG; Mercedes went to town with the hand-built V8 from Burgstal an der Murr, which started the official power saloon battle.

The 5.4 liter supercharged from the AMG line sent many car brands back to the drawing board in thought. Mercedes itself also had to scratch its head; the block delivered so much torque at the bottom that weight was needed on the rear axle to perform. Something the SL lacked, which made the E55 faster! That was not the intention, given the price difference. So the power was reduced by almost 40 horses. But don't let that sink in for too long; it was still at 100 in 4.5 seconds and thus the fastest sedan in the world!

This was also the first car, thanks to its beastly power, that we admit, that we might have been helped a bit.. uh.. are happy with a few computers on board! Even in dry weather, the flickering TC light lets us know that it is potent to merge onto the ring road. With or without a 20-meter line, that depends on that tempting button… Press it if you dare!

And then that luxury, that many brands forget when they bring the sporty version onto the market. Mercedes; They can do that.. A cup holder that opens itself in two steps, designed by a watchmaker. A sliding roof with special ‘light inlets’, so that even when closed, sunlight seeps in. And the air suspension, adjusted by AMG itself. Three settings; touring, seriously sporty and kidney belt position! Seat heating to seat cooling.. All aboard!

And then ours… Low mileage, Arrow Silver, all conceivable options and a set of summer wheels that we can compare to stiletto heels on a woman. Striking, challenging, a bit vulgar, but secretly, incredibly tasty… See you soon?
