Mercedes Pagode 280SL

The story behind this collectible...
The Pagode, an absolute household name among classic car enthusiasts. This is not only because of the beautiful appearance. Before that, there were two beautiful convertibles; the 190SL and the 300SL Gullwing. But one was too slow, the other too expensive! So Mercedes came up with this beautiful model with many improvements. Safety was a priority, but it had to go hand in hand with form and elegance. The very best or nothing.
The result is a beautiful design without much fuss. The roof was given a safe "roll-proof" design that sloped upward on the sides. With this design, it looked a bit like an eastern building; a Pagode. Voila, a 'nickname' for this beautiful SL was born, and later became a legend. Design and engineering came together in a cruiser that cries out to be driven around elegantly in a timeless classic.
You know us a little by now and know that we are always looking for something beautiful, something special. Ours is an original, Swiss-built, manual Mercedes 280SL, and was completely restored in '97. After that, the Mercedes was always serviced by Van Dijk in Lisserbroek, so the car still drives as if it came off the assembly line in Stuttgart yesterday. The differential was rebuilt so that Switzerland still feels like home at higher revs. This one also has the rare "third seat" that lets you safely treat your firstborn to an ice cream. We're still amazed at how modern this 'Sixties-Lovely' drives. Are you looking for a good investment, a beautiful classic cruiser, or both? Come along and let's take it for a spin!
