BMW opens new doors to space economy.
- BMW
And that, they took quite literally. BMW, like the rest of Germany, was in a time of reconstruction under sanctions from the USA and USSR. It also didn't help that only the factories in Munich were still available, the rest fell on the wrong side of the wall for BMW as a capitalist and liberal brand. In response to the recession, they came up with the BMW 300 and 600 Isetta together with Renzo Rivolta, an Italian refrigerator manufacturer. The Italian manufacturer had come up with a dwarf car with a refrigerator door, to save space. BMW in turn hung a motorcycle engine from the BMW R25/3 in it. And so the first Isetta was born in 1955.
End result? A happy face formed from the headlights and bumper, and a wealthy belly as legroom. With its small wheels and cute little parts, this is an absolutely adorable little car. The 600cc two-cylinder boxer engine purrs happily in revs to the maximum power of 19.5 HP. Your neighbor's 2CV should watch out at the traffic lights!
Ours? Just like you're used to from us. An Isetta 600 in original color scheme. Completely matching, just completely nut & bolt restored. Options? Definitely. The gear stick lock. Of course still present with original key. Looking for an original alternative to a 500, Mehari or 2CV to get baguettes in the village? This BMW fits the bill. Bis bald!
