The story behind this collectible...
Ask a child to draw a car and surely he will draw it red and low. Be and stay the grown child. -
The Ferrari 208 GTB Turbo. A thoroughbred Italian that in retrospect is in total contrast to the rest of the Modena stable. As you may know, Ferrari never really takes the customer's wallet into account. Cheap cars for the people? Even Enzo would turn around. Once, Enzo stroked his hand over his heart, in order to meet the Italian enthusiast. While everyone in the rest of the world was still worrying about the return of the old-fashioned Coke recipe, the introduction of CDs and Chernobyl; Italy came up with its first air-conditioning system. You paid road tax based on your engine size. Eat your heart out with your Colombo V12, neighbour!
In response, Ferrari introduced the 208 GTB, based on the 308 GTB. The exact same car, only instead of 3 litres divided over 8 pits, you got a 2 litre divided over 8 pits. What a terrible concession, we hear you think! Rest assured, Enzo had his own people covered! He fitted a turbo. And that one, it doesn't make concessions at all! We think it's similar to the 930 Turbo; And it's not a sweetheart either!
We hear the rational collector's mind going; We can only confirm that. There were eventually 437 born in the 208 GTB Turbo spec. This one? Modena red, the beige sports interior, the classic aluminium gear lever (Broooaaaaap KLIK-KLIK) and the prancing horse on your steering wheel hub. It doesn't get any more Ferrari; it fits neatly under the Christmas tree for Dad himself.
A presto!
