The story behind this collectible...
- My bonus is faster than your bonus - BMW
Many talk about the good old days; Everything used to be better. We often agree, however, some things are not over at all; They have only just begun! And that's how Adriaan van Hooydonk saw it, who broke the silence on the 6-series branch after 15 years. He created a controversial body that sat on a shortened 5-series E60 chassis. Classic in base with its elongated coupe line and nose, but a tad recalcitrant with its thick hips and butt. Many had to get used to it; we were immediately in love.... Now, 16 years later, it's already a true classic in the making, happily losing out to the CLS at the average window operator, shoarma farmer or gym owner. This is and always will be a classy youngtimer!
A BMW with a clear mission; a long-distance bolide that gets you where you need to be, above all, in comfort. So is it a bit of a boring car? Absolutely not; the well-known N62 V8 provides above-average miles a litre. In fact, when the engine came out, it was "the best engine of the year." Guess the tester, like us, were chuckling at the dark-brown gurgle coming out of the thick-set pipes and were amazed at the torque and pull down low. You hardly have to rev to pass that -oh so- sensible modern three-cylinder from your neighbor, with two fingers in the grill.
And a word about this one; she comes from the second owner and has always been serviced at a BMW specialist. All preventive modifications have been done and she doesn't use a drop of oil. Which is nice for Greta. The average consumption over the past 11,500 kilometers was 1 to 11, so rationally she is quite explainable to wifey.
Already so, looking for a beautiful, almost Youngtimer, ready for much more low flying? This is the one. Bis Bald!
