The story behind this collectible...
The Alfa Romeo SZ. The car that guarded the concept of "you hate it or you love it". A car that had to shake off a lot and managed to tickle the Alfist again. After the Alfasud's that pretty quickly *cough* gave itself back to nature, Alfa had to get to work polishing its image. And they took that quite literally, replacing all the metal of the 75 body with plastic. According to Alfa itself for pure weight savings and road holding and had nothing to do with previous cauliflower plantings on the wheel arches. The final 1260 pounds, 10 kg heavier than the 75, we'll forget about that for now.
Up front, the V6 Busso block got some extra espresso and the suspension was borrowed from the Alfa 75 IMSA racer. These Koni's are adjustable, raising and lowering up to 5 cm. Still a bit of Dutch glory on such an Italian wedge! And the handling? When the asphalt warms up, the burratas rip open in the corner!
We have to hand it to her; it is a kart on wheels powered by Pavarotti's brother; the Busso! What-a-party! Ours comes from a Dutch collection and is due to a new passen-lover who will spearhead it on the old Stelvio. Because there, the SZ is really in her element. Will we see you soon?
