What do you get when you make an average American not eat anything for 21 days and then take a critical look at those ‘crazy Europeans’? Exactly! A slimmed-down version that still has a lot of flair. Exactly that, and Caroll Shelby saw it too. A name that would make Enzo Ferrari turn in his grave and appeal to his refined V12 gods. Caroll was a legendary racing driver who had petrol running through his veins. Seriously, he had to take nitroglycerin, a component of our puffer, for his heart condition. After many legendary victories, he started building cars. And that, Ford saw fit to do.
In exchange for the Ford engines he got for his ACs, Caroll developed a Stang with an even bigger pie… ehh engine! With some Shelby sauce, Ford’s K-Code engines did manage to get the revs past the EU diesel standard. This meant that at 6,000 RPM, you could let over 300 horses kick in with long strokes. That, coupled with a manual gearbox that goes topless; There’s little that excites us so much.
And don’t worry, even Shelby realised that the road holding was equivalent to a teenager going to the pub for the first time after Corona. Reinforcements were made to the chassis, you got much wider rubber and your body became largely fibreglass.
