The story behind this collectible...
Losing all your innocence by opening the door for your girl - BMW Z1
A roadster that would sell itself on paper as an average American sports car. Polyester hoods, a partially tubular frame and a big engine in the -long- added nose. The difference? That German does go through the bend with razor-sharp precision. Sideways, that is.
The Z1 was already shown to the public in 1987, the first was born in Munich in 1989. Totally innovative. Doors that do not open but disappear, so that many a man deliberately picks up that lady in a skirt in the Z1. Panels that were composed in such a way that BMW itself unscrewed the side screen in front of the press. BMW CEO Ulrich Bez (now at Aston Martin Lagonda) jumped on it, after which it sprang back into its original form. A masterpiece of technology!
And then a little more on the technology; The well-known Sechserreihe, 170 kicking horses with the Münster snarl -and thud-, topless. As red as a Ferrari, but without the immediate midlife label. Short wheelbase, 1250 kilos, low center of gravity and rear-wheel drive. She cost 80,000 D-Marks new, a total of 8,000 were born and she went to the -I wanna have it!- in 8 seconds!
Ours is fully documented, in mint condition. See you soon?
