The story behind this collectible...
- A car hat reflects scientific achievement. Not merely social acceptance. – the BMW E28
As you may have noticed, we are secretly a little bit of a BMW fan. The kid in the class who gets a little more attention and love. Not because we do it on purpose, but out of love for the brand. The shark nose, the quadruple headlights, modest winks for the enthusiast but certainly not too conspicuous. BMW started making cars because after WWI, Germany was no longer allowed to produce fighter planes. Did this disappear? No, BMW still made fighter machines, but on wheels!
Iconic 6-in-line engines with a snarl that they can only achieve in Munich, always rear-wheel drive and with serious steering, definitely not a car for beginners. Ours neither; the E28 535i with the iconic M30 block. 218 Bavarian horses rush and stamp behind the (then still beautiful) BMW kidney grilles. The entire interior also feels like a cockpit. All gauges, clocks and controls are focused on the driver, ready not to drive fast, but to fly slowly.
In the end, 722,328 E28s were born in Munich (!), but ours is very special. She is part of only 200 units, which were delivered via the predecessor of BMW Individual. How do you recognize her? By the Blau Schwartz Metallic Sonderlackierung and the small plate on the center console. Number 73 of a total of 200 units, which were born without the M package, but with the same power source and chassis. A real wolf in sheep's clothing! With her 78 thousand kilometers and full history, this is one to be careful with. Who will come and see this athlete in a suit in our clubhouse?
