Het verhaal achter deze...
Above 4500 RPM it gets a little louder so you can’t hear the passenger scream. – Porsche 930.
A Porsche that sharpens all your senses; The Porsche 930 Turbo. Known among enthusiasts as the Widow maker. Why? Because this ‘neunelfer’ has a large turbo in addition to the excellent 3.3 liter boxer engine. The 911S was already known for its dual personality. You could tour wonderfully with it, but when you addressed the boxer on its power, you had to be very careful with all the weight mainly in the back. These characteristics were reinforced with the large turbo in the 930.
The name Widowmaker should sharpen the senses, but the car is not ‘really dangerous’. After all, Ferdinand Porsche gave the very first 930 Turbo to his daughter, Louise Piech. Apart from the love for the 930 Turbo at Porsche, even artists have described the driving experience in their songs. Think of KK Downing who wrote the song Turbo-lover or Judas Priest with his album Turbo. This hot-headed 911 is not modest in acknowledging its potential. Perhaps the 911 Turbo line resembles the life of an average artist. It started (with the 930) very wildly, many people were deeply impressed and sometimes ended up backwards in the hedge. Nowadays, after a lot of guidance, structure and balance, they are better, but less eccentric and the experience is ‘more well-behaved’.
The 930 Turbo was a direct competitor of the Lamborghini Countach and Ferrari 356 GT4 BB at the time. With its sprint from 0-100 in 4.8 seconds, it is even today a very fast car. After the announcement of production, Porsche was overwhelmed by the number of reactions and reservations. The planned production number of ‘first editions’ of 500 units was immediately doubled to 1000.
