The story behind this collectible...
- The bird is not driving fast, just flying slowly. -
The Chevrolet Corvette managed to bind a large number of enthusiasts to the brand in the 1950s. Ford had to respond to this, to prevent everyone in the 'sporty' group from switching to Chevrolet. Ford in turn came up with a remarkable car in 1955. A beautiful long two-seater sports convertible, something Ford had not dared to do for years. The result was beautiful; a Gran Tourer with a very futuristic body. Now we call it 'The Rocket Era', with the rocket points on the front bumper and the 'Rocket thrusters' as exhaust just above the rear bumper.
In addition to the completely new design language of the Thunderbird, Ford came up with a few firsts for the automotive world; a depth-adjustable steering wheel, power steering, partly electrically adjustable seats and a transparent counter. Ours has it all! This thunderbird has been fully restored and is in very good condition.
Mrs. Freeman from Santa Barbara, California has taken good care of the Ford. The original title (copy) is still present. In the Netherlands, the Ford was part of a collection, which is now for sale. We think this is one of the most beautiful American Cool Classics, especially with the Torch Red exterior and red-white leather interior. Who's going to (re)live the American dream??
