The story behind this collectible...
The Second World War was over, the economy was starting to recover and so Volkswagen decided it was time for a really nice car. Sure, Volkswagen already had quite a few Volk in the Wagen, but they didn't have a real sports car yet. So the men in Wolfsburg decided to call Karmann. The coachbuilder who had already worked a lot with Volkswagen. They in turn decided to call designer Ghia in Turin. Those Germans and Italians still got along well. Ghia, at that time designer of cars for brands such as Jaguar, Mercedes, Rolls-Royce and Ferrari. Not the least. And that triptych of collaborations turned out to be a good idea since this was the creation of the stylish Volkswagen Karmann Ghia.
The previous owner, not the least, namely one of the largest Bentley and Maserati collectors in the world had only one real dream car. A favorite car from his youth. You guessed it… The Volkswagen Karmann Ghia. And he also had an idea for such a triptych. But just a little bit different. He saw his favorite color for a car at Maserati, namely “Grigio Granito Metallico” and that is why the car was completely resprayed in this color. And the interior? He obviously took that over from Bentley. This resulted in the interior being completely finished in Connolly Leather, again the best marriage of different brands.
Of course the engine has not remained completely standard either. It has been tickled by uncle Ferry and with the help of some parts from the 356 it wants to fit on the modern fast concrete slabs. As you can read, the owner has spared no expense or effort to get the car completely perfect. More than 70,000 euros have been invested in this restoration and the result is impressive! Everything is fully documented and all invoices are present.
He is eager to get back on the road with us. The car currently has only 1966 kilometers on the counter and is in absolutely perfect condition. See you soon?
