The story behind this collectible...

Some cars demand attention. An Alpina doesn’t have to. Those who know what they are looking at need only one glance at the subtle pinstriping, the distinctive wheels, and the Alpina emblem. Everyone else will probably understand what just passed them only after you have long disappeared from view.

The foundation was the BMW 850i, although Alpina was never interested in creating something that was merely about visual drama. The 5.0-litre M70 V12 was thoroughly reworked with, among other things, revised camshafts, a modified crankshaft, improved intake and exhaust systems, and the legendary Alpina tuning philosophy. The result? 350 hp and, more importantly, a way of delivering power that only a naturally aspirated V12 can provide: effortless, silky smooth, and increasingly addictive as the rev counter climbs.

The ZF automatic transmission does exactly what it should: it works seamlessly in the background. A true Grand Tourer, built for covering vast distances rather than chasing traffic lights.

Inside, it is exactly as an Alpina should be. A light leather interior, beautifully finished and crafted to a quality level that remains impressive more than thirty years later. The distinctive Alpina details, classic dashboard, and exceptionally comfortable seats immediately reveal what this car was built for: effortless, long-distance driving.

This particular example was delivered new on September 20, 1991, by Garage Max Heidegger AG in Switzerland and is one of only 97 Alpina B12s ever produced. “Rare” is a word that is used too easily these days, but here it is absolutely justified. Furthermore, this B12 has always been maintained with great care. You can feel it in every detail. The mechanics feel strong, the V12 runs with exceptional smoothness, and the car does exactly what an Alpina is meant to do.

You don’t buy an Alpina B12 because it is the fastest. You buy it because it is different. More exclusive. And because only 97 people worldwide ever had the privilege of taking delivery of one brand new.

Now it is time for the next enthusiast to enjoy it.

We would be delighted to tell you more.
