“The car of distinction.”

Die Geschichte hinter diesem Sammlerstück...

By 1962, America was fully immersed in the heart of the jet age, and nowhere was that more visible than in Detroit. Ford’s answer came in the form of the second year of the third-generation Thunderbird, the so-called “Bullet Bird”.

Yet beneath its stylish surface lay something far more interesting. For those wanting more than comfort alone, Ford offered the exceptionally rare M-code performance option: a 390 cubic-inch FE V8 breathing through not one, not two, but three Holley two-barrel carburettors. This was not the sort of specification one selected accidentally in 1962.

This 1962 Ford Thunderbird Convertible is finished in iconic Tucson Yellow, paired with a black interior. Whitewall tyres complete the picture, giving the car exactly the period-correct presence it deserves.

Under the bonnet sits the highly desirable M-code 390 V8 with its triple-Holley carburettor setup, making this one of the most sought-after and performance-oriented Thunderbird specifications of the model year. And as if that alone were not special enough: fewer than 200 examples were ever produced, making this a genuinely rare sight, even within Thunderbird circles.

While many classic American cars are admired primarily for their looks, this example distinguishes itself through its technical condition. This Thunderbird has been restored in the broadest sense of the word, both mechanically and cosmetically, and has been extensively documented throughout the years. Over the last five years, following restoration, the car has also benefited from substantial maintenance — simply to make sure it is among the very best.

The car further benefits from a range of desirable factory options, including power steering, power brakes and power windows — luxury features that were far from commonplace in the early 1960s. In addition, several thoughtful upgrades have been carried out, including a disc brake conversion, improving drivability and usability without compromising character.

And perhaps the most charming feature of all: the fully electric convertible top. At the touch of a single button, the roof elegantly disappears behind the rear seats. For 1962, this was seriously advanced engineering — and truthfully, it remains just as fascinating to watch today. Take a moment for it.

The result is a Thunderbird that captures everything the jet age stood for, finished in one of its most expressive colours and equipped with one of Ford’s most interesting factory performance options.
