“Donkervoort D8 – No compromises. Drive like you live.”

The story behind this collectible...

There are fast cars, and there are honest cars. The Donkervoort D8 belongs firmly to the latter category, and on a good day, to both. Hand-built in Nieuw-Loosdrecht by a small team with little interest in compromise, the D8 is one of those rare machines designed with a single purpose in mind: the connection between driver and road. No unnecessary weight, no unnecessary technology, no unnecessary distractions. Just a tubular steel spaceframe, a lightweight body, and an engine positioned so close ahead of you that it feels more like a conversation partner than a mechanical component.

The D8 Zetec, powered by Ford’s proven and robust Zetec four-cylinder, was Donkervoort’s answer to a question few others were asking: what happens when you combine a reliable, highly tunable engine with one of the lightest sports cars in Europe? The result is a car that effortlessly leaves far more expensive machinery behind on a winding road.

This 1997 Donkervoort D8 Zetec was originally delivered new in the Netherlands and has remained within the same enthusiast family throughout its life.

Finished in British Racing Green with a brown interior, it carries a specification that perfectly suits the car’s honest and purposeful character.

What sets this particular D8 apart is the development work carried out on its Zetec engine. The car benefits from a series of carefully selected performance upgrades, including polished cam covers, an upgraded ECU, modified inlet trumpets and intake manifold, faster camshafts with adjustable cam pulleys, and a Reverie carbon airbox. The result is a sharper, more eager power delivery from an engine that was already keen to rev in standard form.

Maintained by a specialist and presented in strong mechanical condition, the car benefits from recent servicing. A soft top is also included for those moments when the Dutch weather makes itself known again.

This is a pure analogue driver’s car: lightweight, direct, track-ready and road-legal. Built in Nieuw-Loosdrecht during a period when Donkervoort still believed that things were best done the hard way,  simply because it was the right way.
