- This is not a car, it’s a medicine for the lavishing soul -
What do you get if Elvis Presley had a lot of sex with Sophia Loren? Exactly. A Fiat 1100 TV Trasformabile. The Italian subtle heart and flair, with Stateside style. One of the most beautiful classics we know… She was born in Turin in 1955, under the leadership of Fabio Luigi Rapi. A visionary together with a coachbuilder like Superlagerra or Bacchelli & Villa, you would think. No, this one came from Fiat’s own Carrozzerie Speciali! I think we can say; one of, if not the most beautiful Fiat ever made.
The 1100 TV Trasformabile was based on the 1100/103 TV, a racing child of a few Turin rebels, who later identified themselves and joined the Abarth department. The TV stands for Turismo Veloce; Equivalent to independent suspension and a high-revving 4-cylinder that unleashed all its power from 5,400 rpm. The 53 hp may not sound like much, but it is more than enough caffeine in your espresso. If you dare, your chest hair and your wife's sun hat will flutter at 145 km/h over the Stelvio!
Due to its spirited character, good roadholding and incredibly low weight (830 kg), it was a popular choice during historic rallies. For example, it completed the Targa Florio in 1957 and the Mille Miglia in 1956. This makes it a suitable car for both rallies. And then the rational part. Value is often expressed in production numbers. Of the 1100 TV Trasformabile, only 142 were built. The chance that you will still come across one, with the original hardtop, engine and gearbox…..
Non c'è, idiota! Muoviti, muoviti, muoviti!
