La historia detrás de este objeto de colección...

The Mercedes-Benz R107 was never conceived as an outright sports car. Instead, it represented something far more enduring: a beautifully engineered grand tourer, built with the quiet confidence that quality and longevity would outlast fashion. Introduced in 1971 and remaining in production for almost two decades, it became one of the defining Mercedes-Benz models of its era.

Built on a shortened S-Class platform, the R107 combined exceptional solidity with understated elegance. Its design changed little over the years, a testament to how complete the original concept already was. Even today, it feels timeless rather than nostalgic.

The 280 SL occupies a particularly appealing place within the range. Its fuel-injected M110 straight-six delivers smooth and refined performance, perfectly matched to the character of the car. Rather than demanding to be driven quickly, it rewards relaxed touring with effortless composure and mechanical honesty.

Equally at home with hardtop fitted or roof folded away, the R107 remains one of the most versatile classics of its generation—a car capable of everyday usability without sacrificing its unmistakable period charm.

This 1981 Mercedes-Benz 280 SL was delivered new in France and is finished in blue with a black leather interior. It is an honest, well-maintained example that has been enjoyed rather than over-restored.

The car has been repainted in the past and presents well, with tidy chrome and correct Mercedes wheels completing its elegant appearance. The soft top is in good condition, while the interior retains its original atmosphere, showing only light patina to the centre console. Air conditioning and heated seats add welcome practicality.

Mechanically, the car performs as it should. The M110 engine runs smoothly, the manual gearbox shifts correctly, and the rust-free structure provides an excellent foundation for continued enjoyment.

This is an authentic R107 that wears its years with dignity. Not a concours restoration, but a genuinely usable classic that embodies everything Mercedes-Benz intended: understated quality, engineering integrity and effortless long-distance capability. The sort of car that grows more appealing the longer one lives with it.
