The story behind this collectible...
- The MG VA Tickford. Driving pleasure for each type of weather. -
The 1930s. The time when the cheeseburgers, ballpoint pens and Mickey Mouse were born. The time when we learned to split atoms and discovered that Pluto was floating next to us in the universe. It was also the time when external 'coach builders' offered themselves and started selling MG's rolling chassis. That's how Tickford built our MG VA Drophead Coupe.
With its price of GBP 398 it was a direct competitor of the SS cars, which was later taken up by Jaguar. Nowadays you buy a Playstation for that money. We were born too late, we know for sure now...
Ours, as you may be used to by now, is as it should be. Her original gearbox is still there, but now retired and replaced by a 5-speed gearbox. The tool kit is still complete, the lubrication system still works and she has electric power steering. You can also treat a flat tyre as an F1 pit stop; with the original hydraulic pump under your driver's seat, you operate the MG's jack system.
She was completely restored and overhauled 11 years ago, wears her original colours and has hardly driven since then. Now she is looking for the person who is going to use her again for what she was born in 1938. Will we see you soon?
