Ford Thunderbird

The bird is not driving fast, just flying slowly.
The Chevrolet Corvette managed to bind a large number of enthusiasts to the brand in the 1950s. Ford had to respond to this, to prevent everyone in the “sporty” group from switching to Chevrolet. Ford, in turn, came up with a remarkable car in 1955. A beautifully long two-seater sports convertible, something Ford had not dared to venture into for years. The result was stunning; a Gran Tourer with a very futuristic body. Now we call it ‘The Rocket Era’, with the rocket points on the front bumper and the ‘Rocket-thrusters’ as exhaust just above the rear bumper.
Beyond the totally new design language of the Thunderbird, Ford came up with a few firsts for the automotive world; a depth-adjustable steering wheel, power steering, partially electrically adjustable seats, and a see-through gauge. Ours has it all! This thunderbird has been fully restored and is in very good condition.
Mrs. Freeman of Santa Barbara, California has taken great care of the Ford. The original title (copy) is still present. In the Netherlands the Ford has been in a collection, which is now going on sale. We think this is one of the most beautiful American Cool Classics, especially with the Torch Red exterior and red and white leather interior. Who’s going to (re)live the American dream?
