What possessed Herr Fatz from Wiesbaden remains a mystery. Fact is that, after almost 25 years of ownership, this beautiful 300SL with a odometer reading of 4,065 km arrived in the Netherlands. The NL owner has, in almost 10 years time, added 35,000 km and maintained the car excellently according to the 14 present MB dealer Rüttchen invoices.
Everything shows that the previous owners maintained their SL very neatly and meticulously. Only the soft top showed some cracks, so it was recently replaced by a new one.
The highlights in a row:
Collectors item
Very low, documented odometer reading
Immaculate condition: first paint all around
Very clean and complete interior
Excellent condition
New soft top
The 300SL presented in March 1989 at the Automobile Salon in Geneva was without a doubt the main attraction. With the world first automatic (0.3 sec) folding roll(over)bar. In-house designer Bruno Sacco drew the distinctive design. In terms of development, research & development including building a production facility, Das Haus put 1 billion D Mark into the development and safety of the R129 Baureihe (1989-2001) in the late 1980s.
In doing so, the SL was fully in line with Mercedes-Benz’s now almost 65-year SL tradition of always bringing a top model equipped with the very latest technology to the market. The R129 Baureihe is considered the last “real” SL with a soft-top. Its successors were given a steel folding roof.

Driving this 300SL (1989-1993 > approx. 12,000 built) is a true pleasure; the smooth 190 hp strong 6 cylinder (SOHC) roars delightfully in the front. The torque is 260 Nm and zero to 100 goes, if desired, in just over 9 seconds. The automatic gearbox glides smoothly (even in sport mode) through the 4 available gears, the disc brakes do their job perfectly.
